Students who want to make an impact on sustainability and environmental issues can now pursue a major or honours in Sustainability and Environmental Studies at 91桃色 University.

Sustainability and Environmental Studies—formerly Environment and Society—is an interdisciplinary program grounded in critical thinking, social and ecological justice, and community engagement that invites students to explore the complex relationships between human communities and the natural world.

With a broader scope and 12 new courses rooted in sustainability, the program equips students with knowledge and skills to tackle issues like climate change, sustainable food and energy systems, and global environmental justice.

“The shift from Environment and Society to Sustainability and Environmental Studies reflects the evolution of environmental studies and a more holistic approach to understanding how social and ecological systems intersect,” said Dr. Janice Harvey, Director of Sustainability and Environmental Studies.

“Our objective has always been to prepare students to become active agents in shaping a socially just and ecologically sustainable world. Our expanded focus on sustainability with the option to complete a stand-alone major or honours in the field amplifies that.”

Students in Sustainability and Environmental Studies learn to analyze sustainability through ethical, cultural, economic and ecological lenses and develop practical skills in sustainability assessment, regenerative design, and sustainable community development. These skills are honed through in-class learning, directed research, community-based projects, and field-based learning.

“This program is a challenging and transformative journey—one that will push you to think critically and inspire the changemaker within,” said recent graduate Jenna Polchies.

“As you pursue your major, you will become part of a powerful community of passionate individuals, all driven by a shared commitment to build a sustainable and just future.”
